The Environment Sub-Committee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has expressed strong confidence in the potential of Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s newly introduced self-loading tricycles, skip compactor trucks, and skip containers to transform waste management in the Greater Kumasi area.

Following a visit to several Zoomlion subsidiaries where the waste equipment is being assembled, the committee’s chairman, Abraham Boadi, emphasized the positive impact these innovations could have if integrated into Kumasi’s waste disposal strategy.

“We are planning to engage the General Assembly to ensure these innovations are implemented effectively,” Mr. Boadi stated. “Distributing the equipment across the five sub-metros in the Ashanti Region would yield substantial benefits,” he added.

The inspection tour, led by Mr. Boadi and joined by fourteen committee members, covered three critical locations involved in assembling the equipment. These included the JSA Logistics Warehouse in Tema, JA Plant Pool, and the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) located in Adjen Kotoku, Accra.

Mr. Boadi expressed the committee’s eagerness to partner closely with Zoomlion to tackle the region’s growing waste management challenges.

Also speaking after the tour, Kwaku Poku, the Metro Environmental Health Officer and Secretary to the Environment Sub-Committee, described the visit as enlightening. “What we witnessed today gives us hope. Seeing the equipment up close has highlighted the real potential of this initiative to transform waste management in Kumasi,” he said.

He particularly noted the advantages of the self-loading tricycles, which can maneuver through narrow and congested areas where standard trucks struggle—making them perfect for markets and public gathering spaces.

“This hands-on experience has been valuable. I truly believe this equipment will play a major role in solving our sanitation issues in the metropolis,” Mr. Poku added.

Wiafe Akenten Oduro, a Senior Public Health Engineer from the Waste Management Department at KMA, also praised Zoomlion for its forward-thinking investment in the sector.

He pointed out that the company’s continuous innovations have not only enhanced waste management nationwide but also generated employment opportunities. “Their work has created jobs and supported many families. Their commitment to improving the waste sector is commendable, and we are fully behind them,” Mr. Oduro remarked.

He concluded with a call to action for the public, encouraging all citizens to play their part in maintaining clean communities. “We must all contribute to keeping our surroundings clean. Effective waste management requires collective responsibility,” he stated.
